A soldier was killed by suspected militants in south Kashmir’s Pulwama on Wednesday.
Showkat Ahmed Naik of J&K Light Infantry was shot at by masked gunmen outside his home at Naik Mohalla in Pingleena village in the afternoon, a police official said.
The 25-year-old soldier had come home last month. A joint team of the army and the police’s special operation group have launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area to nab the assailants.
Army spokesperson Rajesh Kalia said Showkat Ahmed Naik, killed by suspected militants, never took oath as a soldier.”He was enrolled on 15 Jan 2018 in Territorial Army and went to JAK LI Regimental Center on 21 March 2018. Later, he was declared deserter on 17 September 2018 after he went on a leave.”
